Ten-Acre Woods----this is the name Henry and Joan Rudnick chose for
their wood products venture.
The name is descriptive of both their products and their home. When they
sold their ranch and dairy herd they kept 10 acres on one corner with
pine and cedar trees and set up a wood working shop and wood carving
studio. Most of the wood used in their products are harvested from Bone
Creek canyon which is a tributary of the Niobrara River. (Some basswood
and cedar are purchased from Niobrara Valley sawmills).
Henry likes to use his machines and makes a variety of products from
cedar, walnut, bur oak, ash, hackberry and other woods. His products
include clocks, breadboards, quilt racks, crosses, boxes and trivet
baskets. Cedar rocking chairs, stools and pet caskets are some of his
larger items. He will also take orders for some items.
Joan likes to do woodcarvings. The majority of the carvings are done in
basswood, which is harvested locally. Chip carving and relief carvings
decorate several sizes of boxes. A life sized turkey tail feather,
hummingbird clocks, wheat plaques, chip carved crosses and relief
carvings are some of Joan’s items.
